My first time to draw a bow on a hog and it was exciting. Really gets the adrenaline pumping. Lots of fun.

The Leoncitas Ranch
|
| |
The Leoncitas Ranch is located in the trophy Buck County of McMullen in South Texas. This Ranch has been managed by the same family since 1906. The generation is the only difference today. Although Bow hunting is one generation deep, wildlife and the love of hunting runs thick, through the family tree.
This medium to heavy brush has never been occupied by a bowhunter prior to 2000/001 hunting season. The brush consist of short Mesquite trees, Wajia, Black Brush, White Brush, Agarita, Cat Claw, Ceneasa and one lone Mountain Laurel Bush which no one knows where or how it arrived on the ranch. This country is fairly flat with an occasional slow rise. Many stock tanks have been dug, the first by mule and the latest by Bulldozer, to provide adequate water supply for the wildlife.
Although this ranch is a working Cattle Ranch, a little more than a section was set aside for the Archery only hunting operation. As our operation developes we already have plans on adding additional acreage to the hunting area. We started the project in late 1998 and opened for business in September of 2000. From the start the native game were supplement fed, protein and corn, and the cattle were removed from the hunting area. Exotics were introduced and they along with the native whitetail and hogs have really thrived.
As you know this area of Texas is known for the monster whitetail bucks and this ranch is the home of some. We had the natural genetics and protein prior to our supplemental program.Feed routes are ran every evening. Protein is fed year round.
